The Face

The Face

A Poem by Valentine

      The Face
Saw the face looking into the mirror,
Watching the sadly...falling tears.
One day, she was at the age twenty,
Now the time passing, has been plenty.

Looking at the face now in the mirror.
What happened to all of those years.
All the promises of youth are long gone,
Oh to start over at the age twenty one.

Now I stand looking at that face in the mirror,
Give many thanks to God, that I am still here.

love the turn in closing ..i lie to myself whenever i look in the mirror ;)) fine poem ..sparks my memories of younger days when i was an idiot ...and the wisdom truly is gratitude for each morning ..and for me that i don't have to go back to "younger days" ..great poem says i

reminds me of Sylvia Plath's "mirror"

and how the woman was disgruntled at what she saw...the physical waning...but for plath herself...when she looked into the mirror, what was on the inside bothered her more.

i really like this poem...and a part of it reminds me of simon and garfunkel..." i was 21 years when i wrote this song, i'm 22 now but i won't be for long. Time hurries on, and the leaves that are green turn to brown....and they wither with the wind and they crumble in your hand"

all that does seem to happen as we age...but we often do is forget to be thankful that we are still here.

Thank you Jacob, each day is a gift. Kathie
There is a wonder in feeling such thankfulness and joy. Age begins to matter less, and the moments matter more. So beautiful are your words.

I understand this poem. When I was young. 39 and I wanted to be done. Today 58 years old and wanting more.
"Now I stand looking at that face in the mirror,
Give many thanks to God, that I am still here."
I say the above lines often. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
