Almost Missed

Almost Missed

A Poem by Valentine

Older write from when I lived in the Ozark Mountains.

   "Almost Missed"

Looking out over the windswept hills,
A light breeze blowing but all seems still.
Sun and shadow tracing the ground,
As the golden light passes and touches down.

Off on a high hill a wing spread hawk takes flight;
Soaring over knoll and valley, a wondrous sight.
Seeking its prey, it quickly...swoops down,
Eyes bright and piercing...it circles around.

Watching all of the different...shades of green,
Turning in color, as the sun's light is seen.
Then slowly darkening...as the shadows pass,
One of God's paintings that for centuries will last;

So many times in passing...this sight was missed;
But there is awe in silence...part of nature's bliss.

I agree dear friend.
"Watching all of the different...shades of green,
Turning in color, as the sun's light is seen.
Then slowly darkening...as the shadows pass,
One of God's paintings that for centuries will last;"
I love the above lines. Real and true words. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Valentine,
You know nature has it's own heartbeat and living rhythm? This poem speaks of aspiration. High windswept hills, a hawk high in the sky, panaramic scene of rolling hills. So picturesque; It is a dream! I love you eye when it comes to writing what you see and feel. Blessings, Kathy

Kathy, I just love the pictures around me that God has created. So much to see in nature. Kathie
This write was cute, the meter and rhyme was like tip toeing through the fields of wonder.

Andrew, I know nothing of writing proper poetry, I just put down words that come to me. Kathie
The way you express natures beauty leaves me in awe. Leaves me with a wash of peace. Lovely piece. R xo

Awe in silence, very powerful. Essence, stillness. That is what I get from your poem.

A beautiful image of colour and light, as well as feeling part of nature that we do take for granted for the simple reason that it surrounds us always, and perhaps because it doesn't come with a like button too. You were caught in the moment of being a delighted spectator of all the splendour and wonder that our busy lives sometimes mean we walk blindly past, yet when noticed, puts all the things we rush toward into the background, while we feel with all our senses, those moments that make us feel so alive.
Beautifully captured Kathie.

The mountains are not the highest but are really beautiful. Kathie
Good one, Valentine. Those who have never witnessed the changing colour of leaves in the fall have missed something of beauty. Your description is great. Good write.

Every summer my father used to take the family on vacation to his hometown in Kentucky. One time he told me to pay close attention as we drove along because something very special was coming up. This was before the interstate highway system was finished so we drove along through the bayous in Arkansas and I watched. We reached the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and still I watched. Growing very tired I finally asked him when we would get to that special thing I was looking for. "You just missed it," he said.
