'In A Maze"

'In A Maze"

A Poem by Valentine
"

The thoughts of a young beautiful mentally disabled girl that I worked with years ago when I worked with the mentally challenged. They have hopes and thoughts too. Valentine

"
    "In A Maze"
She lives a life, of perfect bliss;
For there is naught she has missed.
A perfect love...came to stay...
Children and home, have come her way.

A warm smile...covers her face;
Of a frown...there... is never a trace.
A life so perfect... that it seems,
She has found, the American Dream.

Walking through life in a blissful daze,
Not knowing, she is lost in a maze;
Of broken minds and destroyed things;
For reality to her, is a lost mind's dream.

Honest and sad words shared in your words dear friend. Somethings we lost. Make us sad till we are done. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

Sorry, Kathie, working to catch up. It's sad that some people think that the 'disabled' who are considered 'challenged' are different and therefore not as 'whole'. Generally, they have a life free of trauma and worry.
We are all made in God's image, not just the regular ones.

it is our duty as human beings to look out for each other. Those less fortunate ones just need looking after a little closer

Know some disabled people that would put you to shame. It's all about attitude.

You always get dumb people Kathie. That's a real shame about the kid. What a tragedy.
I think the most wonderful thing about this world is all of the different experiences people have. We all have a different perception of this world, whether we be healthy or sick, abled or disabled, young, old.. and our perceptions change over time as we gain new experiences. One perception is no less true than another's.

I have a key rule: Whenever something seems perfect, run as fast as you can. When caught in a play of perfection, it's easy to be blinded and not see the darkness intrude, and before you know it you're caught in a maze, like you say.

Beautiful poem.

A lovely poem on this girl. it is a great gift for her. You also maintained the rhymes very well in this piece. I love the following lines of this piece, Valentine. "A warm smile...covers her face;
Of a frown...there... is never a trace.
A life so perfect... that it seems,
She has found, the American Dream."

Though every line is heart-touching. Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome. Kathie
The tragedy of severe mental illness often leaves people at the margins of society. I worked in the field 40 years and have seen some tragedy played out again and again. Back at the turn of the century and the early to mid 1900s women were sent to mental institutions for getting pregnant out of wedlock or others because they embarrassed their families.
