"There You Are""

Idea from a book write.

    "There You Are"

You follow me...everywhere,

No matter where I go.

If I am going too fast,

Or when I am going slow.

Every time I turn around;

There you are, it seems.

Sometimes I wonder if,

You follow me into my dreams.

When I walk down the street;

I turn and there you are.

I have often tried to shed you;

But I have never got that far.

If you walk before me...

I seem to be tagging along.

On my right or on my left

Our friendship must be strong.

You stick closer than a friend;

Yet I give you so much less.

Surely this closeness is not what is best;

Why not leave me and seek out the rest?

I guess from the day of my birth;

Until they lay me in the sod;

You will stick closer than a brother;

About as close as God.

I guess there is a moral,

Or an ending To this tale...

Turn around and you might see

Your shadow tailing you as well.

This is a very charming write. It bring memories of childhood, playing shadow games with a flash light or under a street light, at night. Catching shadows. I vividly remember trying to escape from my shadow and getting annoyed that it was bigger than me. I liked it when it looked smaller, for some reason...haha..:)

In this part it's as if you're refering to a nightmare, are you?

ahahaha! you got me! and as a boy Peter Pan was aired every year (Mary Martin production) .. and i never missed it ..such a vivid scene in memory as Peter has his shadow sewn back on :))) for me some of the rhyming is a little on the edge ..but thats always a difficult (for myself) thing to pull of .. but i love the story and the twist!! very enjoyable and engaging

Great write Kathy, very cleverly written. For the most part I thought you were talking about your relationship with God. Since we are made in God's image maybe He has a shadow also. I enjoyed this poem very much.
