Climber

Climber

A Poem by Val

I've tried them all
applause applause
caught in the net of a desperate night
like a gilled fish thrashing to escape
an audience in shades of blue
watched my own brand of crash and burn
whether I survived intact
is still a matter for debate
but on a narrow set of stairs
there are only two endings on this flight
one is down toward the ground
the other somewhere out of sight
