Chapter 49

Several days later early in the morning, Vain left his and Luvia's apartment room quietly carrying Mellerain in his arm when he saw Lumia walking up the steps. Lumia was wearing a blue police uniform and she said, "You're up early. Are you taking her home?" Vain replied, "Yeah, that was the plan. So I have to sneak her into the base and put her inside Zec before we deploy." Lumia then said, "I see, well have a safe trip." Vain then picked up his silver case, locked the door before closing it with his foot, and walked passed Lumia. Vain then approach his car and put Mellerain in the back seat. He drove to the base and with Heo's help made it pass the inspection with Mellerain. When Vain parked Heo and got out, Heo said, "Be safe out there, my lord. And I hope your and Void-sama's plan work." Vain replied, "Don't worry so much. We'll be fine." As he picks up Mellerain in his arm and walks away while Heo shuts the door. Vain then approached Zec and Zec opened his chest so Vain could put Mellerain into the seat. With Mellerain sleeping peacefully in the seat, Vain stepped out, and Zec closed his chest. Vain then said, "I'll be doing some final checks. You know what to do if she wakes up." Zec then said, "Of course, I'll make sure she's as comfortable as possible." Vain then said, "Good," before getting to work. Soon Leonhart and the team arrived and they all did a final check with their engineers. With everything in good condition Leonhart said, "Everybody move... out." Everybody including Vain said, "Yes sir," and the ramp lowered into the hanger and they all left one after another.

As they're travelling, Leonhart told Vain to go on ahead and decrease the enemies number. So Vain and Zec flew on ahead and after some time they spotted Void and Rexalfist coming towards them. They both landed on the ground and they started to talk to each other while moving Mellerain from Zec to Rexalfist. When their allies caught to them and saw what was going on, they were surprised. They thought they were being betrayed, but Vain and Void managed to calm them down and explain to them the situation. They even tried to make them get along, but unfortunately, some of them didn't want to. So Vain said, "Okay, if you don't want to get along then step forward and I'll cut you down. Enemy or friend I don't care. If you're going to be a pain in my a*s then it's better to get it over with." Void then said, "Hey, hey, Vain don't be so rash. We want them to get along willingly not by using fear." Vain then said, "Shut up, some of these f*****g idiots don't understand the words get along and they won't. So I'll f*****g kill those idiots right here and right now." Vain made Zec reach for his swords but before he could draw them Luvia's voice said, "Stop darling!" So Zec's hand froze by the sword's handles and Vain said, "Void... don't tell me..." Void then said, "Yep, I knew you wouldn't listen to me so I called Luvia." Vain then said, "You f*****g b*****d. You couldn't fight your battle alone so you had to call in reinforcement." Void then said, "Oh, but I thought you like getting ganged up on." Vain then said, "That's not the issue! You're a f*****g man, so f*****g act like one and face me head on one on one." Void then said, "Alright, then don't take out your swords. Deal?" Vain then said, "Tch, fine," so Void said, "Well you heard him Luvia. Takes for the help, but I can take it from here." Luvia then said, "Oh ok, well good luck Void and I'm sorry darling." Vain then said, "It's fine," as Void hanged up on Luvia. Vain then stood behind Void as he talks to the group.

Void heard their disapproval and said, "I'm quite disappointed. The reason you refuse to get along is because of mere rumors. I'm actually starting to agree with Vain that you guys are idiots. Believing such silly rumors over experiencing it for yourself and seeing if they are true. No wonder you guys are at war and the evil people behind the scenes are making a fortune." Void then sigh and said, "Listen here, everything you hear isn't always true. It's better to check the facts for yourself. I've spent time in both countries and I'll tell you the truth. Not all beastmen are murdering psychopaths who act on animal instinct and not all human are greedy murdering machines. Yes, there are some who do act with nothing but ill intent. But tell me what normal person doesn't? Even now, are we the perfect role models for the coming future?" No one replied to Void's question so Vain said, "We're not. All that is being built is nothing but fear and hatred of one another. Many innocent lives will be taken and blood will be on everybody's hands. If the lives of good people don't matter to you then don't f*****g talk about peace." Void then said, "Well... he's right but that aside, if we want peace then I like the leaders of both parties to get together and work out a solution. Do you guys think we can get that arranged?" Leonhart then said, "Well I can't guarantee a meeting but I'll do what I can." Void's commander agreed as well and Void said, "Good then let's head back home and planned out what we need." Everybody returned back the way they came except for Vain and Void. They stood alone in the snowy field and Void said, "Well, now that they're all gone and peace talks are on the way, you know what to do." Vain replied, "Yeah." Void then said, "Good, well I leave that to you and don't kill them all. We need some of them alive to take the blame for what they've done." Vain didn't say anything so Void took it that he agreed. So with their chat done, Void and Rexalfist flew away and headed back. While Vain jumped out from Zec's cockpit before making a clone of himself using the shadows. Once he finished being created, his clone climbed into Zec, and headed back. Vain then sank into the shadows and began the hunt for his targets.

With the help of his shadow servants, Vain found a suspicious cave but what makes it suspicious was the magic seal in front of it. Vain passed through the barrier by going through the shadows. Vain travel further into the cave and he noticed the walls were lined with special torches. Instead of regular lights or torches what lit up the cave were white cards. They were glowing with a white light and soon he came upon a big space. Vain reach his hand behind him, creating a magic circle, as he pulls his engine blade out of it, and swings it at five white cards that came at him. A man's voice then said, "Oh... guess my card tricks won't work against you." A man wearing a black top hat, black and red cape with the black facing out, as well as a white shirt and gloves, and a black suit. He kept his hat lowered to his face while he reached for a blue handkerchief in his chest pocket. He pulled it out and tossed it up behind him. Vain quickly spotted a cage behind him and seven children in the cage. The handkerchief began to expand until it completely covered the cage and two men and women climbed under it. Vain lept forward and dived at the man with his sword. But he elegantly avoided the attack and Vain pierced the ground with his sword. Vain then pulled on the large handkerchief but to his surprise, there was nothing there. Soon the handkerchief began to glow as it exploded in his hand. The man quickly left the cave as it begins to collapse and he undid his magic barrier as he got out. He looks behind him and said, "Whew, well that was quite the show today. It's unfortunate but that's one less customer for my shows." Vain then said, "I wouldn't bet on it!" Vain came out of his shadow and grabbed his leg before jumping out of the shadows. Vain then pulled him up and slammed him into the ground. He then squeezed his leg to get a better grip but it felt soft, so he lifted him and saw that it was a plushie. The man was standing a few feet away from him and said, "Quite the dangerous customer I have today. But unfortunately, we're out of time. So I have to bid you adieu. Let us meet again at the next show." He took off his hat and white petals flew out from inside it and towards Vain. Vain shielded his eye with his arm and when the petals died down the man had disappeared. Vain then said, "That face, there's no doubt about it. Looks like I'll have to get serious next time we meet." Vain then started to make his way back home while also calling Void to tell him about the person.

Void was sitting at the dining table eating dinner with Elaine and Mellerain. They were talking to each other and having a fun time together. Soon Void's phone began to vibrate in his pants so he took it out and looked at it. Elaine saw Void looking at his phone and asked, "Who is it?" Void replied, "It's one of my partners." Elaine then said, "I see, well if it's important then you should take it." Void closed his phone and said, "It can wait." Elaine then asked him, "Are you sure?" Void nodded his head and replied, "Yeah, if it's really important then he'll call me again. But if it isn't then he doesn't mind waiting." Elaine smiled and said, "I see. It sounds like you really trust him, honey." Void smiled and said, "Of course, he's good at what he does." Mellerain ate her food quietly and Elaine saw her lonely expression and said, "Hey honey, can you still do magic tricks?" Void looked at Elaine in surprise before following her eyes to Mellerain and said, "Yeah, I should be able to do a few tricks. Mellerain, would you like to see papa's tricks?" She smiled at Void and replied, "Yes." Void smiled back and said, "Okay then let's finish dinner and I can put on a little show." While Void put on a little show for everybody in the mansion, Vain had returned home and was walking up the stairs when he stopped halfway up. Vain then said, "Leave," and the man Vain met earlier appeared behind him. He lifted his hat and said, "As I thought the man troubling my partners is you." Vain then said, "I see, then that makes you my enemy." The man said, "It seems so, but I was hoping we weren't. Afterall, you and I are not so different. Having someone like you work with us would've made things easier. So how about you think it over and join us? I'll make it worth your time." Vain summoned his sword and swung at him, but he was nowhere in sight. The man's voice then said, "Wrong move my friend. If you're going to be a problem for us then I'll show no mercy to you or your family." Vain then said, "Come and f*****g try it."
