ThanksgivingA Poem by West Coasta homework assignment for my creative writing class
Full stomachs stretch waistbands. The earthy smell of
pumpkin and nutmeg still lingers in the room. The forks are discarded along
with napkins on the table. A delicious harvest moon had been placed in the
center of the table, but now a lone slice remains in the pan. I reflect on the
dessert, recalling the creamy texture, the autumn leaf color, and the golden
crust that crowned its edges.
I wish I wasn't stuffed like the golden turkey my
family had devoured earlier in the meal, so that I could indulge in that one
last piece of perfection.
