                   Tricked

It awoke me that night as I a lay a sleep.

An evil presence I could not see.

I turned on the lights and searched the house.

I could feel its presence but it I could not see.

A noise out side gave me a fright.

I looked out the window to see,

and there it was looking back at me.

I barricaded the doors the windows too

Nothing would get in when I was through.

I would be safe now. It could not get in.

It could not get me.

Oh, but I had been tricked you see.

For I was not alone,

It had remained inside with me.

A trick by it, played on me.

I saw the reflection of the poem's subject in the window because some windows can act like a mirror at night when there is more light inside than out.
I expected the last line to say
'a trick played on me, by me'

You painted a spooky scene very well Alex and built the tension well.
I enjoyed this thrill ride and the twist at the end was good too.

I did enjoy! The concept of being fearful of that which becomes part of oneself is intriguing. Tricked, or aware of that which was already there?
Interesting!!
