Welcoming Hell homeA Chapter by MeggyChapter fourHome her safe haven the only constant in her twenty-two years of life so why did it not feel safe to her anymore. The three weeks since Anew moved in with her, the deterioration of her body had not slowed any in the passing weeks, and she knew Anew was scared for her. Sleep was something Dusk could only wish for and the few hours she could get were plagued by nightmares and tonight were no different. Her hand reached out and hit the button on her bedside alarm clock. The numbers flashed blood red reading her the time of 3:18. Sighing Dusk gave up on sleeping and swung her legs out from under the covers on her bed. The floor was cold on her feet but she pressed onward along the way grabbing her robe as she headed to the bathroom. Hitting the light switch the light was blinding and hurt her for the moment it took her eyes to adjust to it. Dusk tried to ignore the mirror as she undressed but she longed to see what had happened to her and now, as she stood in front of the mirror naked shock and aw filled her body. Her reflection could not deny what was going on with her as it showed her snow-white skin pulled tight over bones. It did not take much to be able to count every rib since they too were visible under tight skin. Her face was hallowing with her cheekbones visible and the dark black circles under her eyes that made them appear sunken in. If people other than Anew were to see her, they would swear she was something death had brought back to join the living. It took all her energy to pry her eyes away from the mirror and her reflection before she turned and filled the tub with hot water and bubble solution. Dusk sunk her body into the hot water slowly before laying back with her eyes closed. Time seemed to slip away from her as she relaxed letting all her worries to melt away as the water cooled around her. Her attention did not return until she felt the icy water slip over her skin signaling it was time for her to get out. She popped the plug on the tub and watched the water drain away before she got out. The feel of her silk robe was a welcome change against her skin and as Dusk was just about to relax, she felt the air in the room change. It only took her seconds to look up at the mirror catching the reflection of the man in the mirror. She took in his appearance the long black coat his black spiked hair, the way his eyes shined a demented green in the mirror but what caught her attention was the perfect slash going across his neck and instantly she knew. The man smiled wickedly at her as he moved his form closer to hers. His hand reached out and stroked her cheek gently as his smile never wavered. The hiss in his voice was so clear now why hadn’t she recognized him weeks before. “Hello my dear little Wildfire have you missed me?” Dusk flinched at his touch at the coldness of it and the painful memories it brought back and Shino knew how much she hated him. He could see her flinch, it angered him he had given up so much for her, and she dares to flinch at his touch. Rage blinded him and before Dusk knew what was happening she felt the harsh sting on her right cheek and the taste of blood filling her mouth. Her body was slammed against the wall but she couldn’t figure out how hard until she heard the door to Anew’s room opened and the sound of footsteps in the hall. In that brief moment, she and Shino stared at each other while the sound of Anew knocking then his worried voice filling the destructive silence. “Dusk are you okay?” Dusk swallowed the blood pooling in her mouth before yelling out in a cracking voice. “Yeah I am fine just go back to bed I fell…” The silence faded to the sounds of Anew walking away but in that moment, Shino was in front of Dusk grabbing her throat and slamming her head in the mirror. The Glass shattered under the blow cutting into her head leaving a bloody mess while Shino spit on her. “Who was he Wildfire why is he in my house and why does he share my bed!? On second thought, I do not care for he will not stop me from killing you. I will be back in one week see you then my dear.” He pressed his lips to hers before vanishing and as dusk stood alone in the bathroom looking into the broken mirror she felt everything she lost rushing back to her in a surge of rage and disgust. © 2009 MeggyAuthor's Note
