The sun was blinding in their sleepy little city where the crowds were barely thick unless the stores had sales. At the Scarlet Cinnamon café a woman sat outside staring into her iced hot chocolate her long white hair falling forward to shadow her face from view. The people on the street paid her no mind but she did not care there was only one she wanted to see the face of the man she had not seen in almost a year.  She was nothing but a friend to him and she had learned to live with that so it was a little less painful too look into his eyes every year she saw him. It had only been four years since they had been kicked out of the orphanage and he started to travel with out her but she could not ask him to stay behind not for her not after all the nights on the stiff cots hearing him talk of his dreams of travel when they got out. Giving a contented sigh she could not help but think their meetings were mistakes and just as she was about to leave she heard the familiar voice that haunted her dreams at night calling out to her.

“Hey Dusk I am so sorry I am late!”

The male plopped down in the chair across from her with a smile on his face that managed to reach his emerald green eyes. The long black hair that had always been his trade mark was chopped into a spike do and this surprised her but he was still as handsome as ever in her eyes.

“Heya Anew how was Romania?”

He smiled again and it made Dusk’s heart sink knowing they may never meet again after this week.

“It was amazing you should have come with! I wish you would reconsider my offer to join me in Russia I am sure you would enjoy it we could sight see together.”

She could only shake her head no. Anew was the dreamer. He was the one who was destined for better things not her she knew her place and it was not at his side.

“No that is okay I am sure you will have fun all on your own besides we both know I am not cut out for travel it is just not in my family’s genetic makeup.”

Anew would nod taping his finger to his lip thoughtfully before looking up to meet Dusk’s honey colored eyes.

“Speaking of your family have you gone to see them?”

Dusk could feel her eyes narrow at the thought of going to go see them.

“No, no I have not gone to see them and I do not plan on it why should I?

Dusk could see Anew’s face soften as he reached out and grabbed her hand gently in his as he spoke softly to her just like he used to when they were children.

“You should because it is the anniversary today and you owe them at least that do you not?”

She sighed hating how he was always right no matter what they were talking about but she would not give him the satisfaction of knowing it at least not at this moment. Pulling her hand back she stood wiping the remains of hot chocolate from her lips before throwing the napkin down.

“Maybe you are right…maybe I should go see them I do not know I will think about it.”

He smiled and she had to try not to melt. Anew then took Dusk in his arms like any good friend would do and as he held her he whispered in her ear ever so softly.

“You know you have to it is the right thing to do.”

With that he let her go and walked away and in the brief moment she knew he was right and Dusk turned her body to the flower shop. If she was going to go visit them she might as well bring a gift with her.
