Dawn and AfterA Poem by VAinMDa delayed aubade
One of the first things I loved
were the stories you told to postpone the day, mischief gleaming, you watched for my compliance. As if I'd choose reason over relation. Maturing could wait until we rose together. Maybe after noon. zzzzzzzzzzz Entropy waits for no man. I begin to wake up and smell the coffee you started drinking as a rebuke to me. Maybe there's no accusation in your alertness. There's no reason to get up to see. I roll over and stroke the infinitely loyal dog. zzzzzzzzzzz Now before I'm fully awake the daughter bounds onto the cold rumples on your side; mischievous, she burrows to hold me in place. Reasonable mothers kickstart the day; I have no heart for it. All I know about indulgence is we grow out of it too quickly.
