A Piece of Wisdom

Just wanted to tell the facts of life

                                                             What does it mean to have wisdom?

                                                 To have intellect and not make the slightest mistake

                                                             Is it wise for you to look before you fall

                                                           To start walking before you start running

                                                           Compliment your woman during a date

                                                              For people to ignore their calling

                                                         Cause an argument that turns into a brawl

                                                                     

                                                                     Is it wise to get greedy 

                                                                   And not give to the needy 

                                                                 To look ahead and not behind 

                                                              That true love is the gift of mankind

                                                                         Staying in the past

                                                                      Will bring you down fast

                                                                  

                                                                 Is it wise to hurt those around you

                                                                       Cause a fire that'll burn

                                                                    Realize that you'll begin to rue

                                                                  There's a price to pay, not to learn

                                                                     

                                                                    Is it wise to have abortions

                                                                And cease to see a kid's gratification

                                                                         Say that I am sorry

                                                                     When you're in the wrong

                                                                      To pass tales of your glory

                                                                That this is the road where you belong

                                                                 

                                                                 Is it wise to stand up for your friends

                                                                 And prove that friendship never ends

                                                                     Look at other kids with regret

                                                                         Wishing to be young again

                                                               Have another woe that'll cause you stress

                                                                 To be courteous and let somebody win  

                                                                     So tell me, is it wise..........

I really like the questioning factor of this poem. Gives one a lot to think about. And who couldn't use a little more wisdom.. My only objection to this poem is all of the cliches.. loads of them. I think using original ideas for each cliche could take this poem over the top.

there is much wisdom in the world. it just rarely ever gets used...i think the teachings of the Buddha might enlighten most, but there are so many prejudices....man has a lot of growing up to do, and the clock is ticking toward mass annihilation...great hollywood movie stuff, huh? tick tock tick tock....terrific piece of writing here.

Regardless of me currently being in the pensive mood, i find this philosophical 'Piece of Wisdom' bold and enlightening. I have sincerely enjoyed the rhythmic force of your poem. It leaves the reader to question the truth. What we know to be true is sometimes doubted. Then, it becomes hard to persevere the things we know to exist.
