What You LostA Chapter by Ursula Kay VosA Poem from the mind of Ursula Kay Vos.
Did you know I have Papa’s eyes?
Or Granddads’ Witt?
Granny’s charm?
Great- Grand’s, her kind spirit?
~~~
You wouldn't know,
You never took the time,
You never took a second look,
Past the child you left to die.
~~~
Back then pop was a waste.
I was collateral damage,
Maybe I could have been saved,
But it was he you saw in my face.
~~~
Did you even think twice?
When you walked away?
As you left me with a monster so cruel-
Never turning back,
Always resenting -
Hatred your fuel.
~~~
Have you ever wondered who I am now?
Or is it shame that keeps you from coming ‘round?
~~~
I wonder sometimes,
When I feel most alone,
When there is no family to come,
To celebrate with me here at my home.
~~~
I often sit- I scrutinize-
I wonder why I'm still alive.
I often think that those who know me best-
My family - you- can’t bear my rest.
~~~
At that thought I wonder why,
God leaves me here,
Why he won't reach out from the sky,
Why not erase this glaring failure?
~~~
The ones you gave me to-
They could have said it no clearer.
~~~
The one response,
The one that saved this rejected child-
Whose home wishes her a grave,
~~~
God makes no mistakes-
They know you not!
The ones that do,
Can never forget you!
~~~
