I'm Not Done Yet

~*~

Sitting here without you

I didn't put you to bed

~*~

I haven't done my job yet

I haven't given you dinner

I wonder if you've been fed

~*~

It's all I can do

Night after night

Not to break down to tears

~*~

As nights turn to weeks

And slowly

Painfully

Weeks have turned to years

~*~

You were toddlers then

You look me in the eyes now

Telling me how a caterpillar bears his defense

Or how you built your dare devil ramp

When you jumped your scooter then

~*~

I wonder as I sit

And think of Santa's gifts

Does Santa know anymore

What her children…

~*~

Like and I wince

Much time has passed

Stolen as it were

~*~

I won't trouble you with that

I can only pray that time

Hasn't left my turn

~*~

That the sand has spared

A grain or two

A small pence here for me

~*~

So I can watch in wonder

My hearts walking

In the world

Free

~*~

To guard you

My only task

~*~

I pray you know my love

As it was not my wish

Not my will

To ever give you up

~*~

To keep you safe

Ensure your growth

From one stage to the next

~*~

You've made me proud

From the very first day

When you took your very first breaths

~*~

I'll be here for you no matter what

Until the very end

~*~

When I'm called home

I'll fight it still

Just to see you once again.

~*~

Love,

      Mom
