Hibiscus CryA Chapter by Ursula Kay VosA poem by Ursula Kay Vos
Hibiscus Cry
Greedy Men Steal a leaf Hoarding its scent
To recapture a place Far away The islands lie
Uncorrupted By brilliant minds
The spirit of shaka Still survives In the surf In the spray
On cool summer nights Lovers lay Begging the islands breeze Create a memory Today?
A soldier A sailor Even a haloe Or two
These islands Like nothing You have ever seen So true
Why do you bring The native beauty away Her paradise of flowers Is where she should stay
Plucking a fish From its salty home Means certain death It needs to roam
So why do you steal The Hawaiian goddess away Clipping her wings Taken the oceans spray
The salts absence from the air Leaves her breath stale and dead No where to swim No where to roam
Looking forlornly upon the sky She gazes long Wondering why
The air has lost its sweetness The days lost their spring Her step now sullen As is her every breath
Her mind wanders back To the day she saw her love The soft seas sand On the paradises land Where her heart Rests now
Waiting for her return To her love.
