The Poet Speaks

The Poet Speaks

A Poem by Ursula Kay Vos

Cool nights at an art fair

Coffee shops with an open mic

Laughter and music in the air

A poet steps up for the first time

Sharing their hopes and dreams

While trying to settle the butterflies they feel

Shuffling subltly across the stage

I close my eyes

Letting the words you gave

Flow once and forever

Into the cool night air

I love the texture of this poem. From the way it creates the setting with the briefest of words, to the wonderful way it feels and soudns when read out loud. 'Shuffling subtly across the stage.' Wonderful. It is a sumation of performance, wether you're experienced or not. Great write and read

That's a brief but a nice poem..."Cool nights at an art fair

Coffee shops with an open mic" ... The 36th International Kolkata Book Fair, which is held every year in my city and is Asia's largest, concludes today and as I came across this poem it sort of seemed ironic! The description was short, but made the poem crisp which I liked coz I personally tend to drag my poems a bit too much! Nice read :)

The poem gives me the sense of listening...
When you are at an open mic its somehow never the same
though the words repeat. We all use the same words -
its just that each of us makes the meaning uniquely ours.

Thank you again this was a quick write. A flash really. But just a glimpse I was remembering when conversing with a pretty cool writer here on WC! :)
