and we laughedA Poem by UrbanHermit
we laughed
we laughed as he labored through the streets with sweat on his brow we laughed as he carried his heavy burden on his bruised and bloody back we laughed as children threw stones and people mocked his ways we laughed because he had it coming who was he to question us? who was he to talk about what we did? we laughed as he slowly dragged himself up the hill we laughed as the nails were driven into his hands and feet we laughed as his wooden load was raised as his crown was placed as he bled we laughed as his breathing slowed as he cried for mercy we laughed and then he was stabbed in the side and we watched him bleed we grew silent as he died on the cross and the only sound to be heard was the rain on the stones and a mother crying for her dead son and we were silent as we all slowly made our way home
