Disappointment

"Will you just let me go?" he asked.

"I can't force you to stay," she replied.

They both said these words hoping that the other would object. 

Hoping that the other would say otherwise. 

Hoping that the other would keep this relationship from falling apart.

But neither of them said what they should have said.
