What did I do to deserve you?

What did I do to deserve you?

A Poem by Unwelcomeguest
"

A poem for mother's day.

"
A saint could toil a hundred years
To raise one sinner from their sea of tears
And a soldier fight a million wars
To give a broken people laws
These greats, who die, to just preserve
Us many who do not deserve
Work endlessly in pain and blight
For a place where eyes are used for sight
Not weeping at the children's grave
Or screwed up tight so as not to see
The people that we wouldn't save
And for this, what is it they receive
From us? Nothing but their right to greive
But I've done nought in this harsh life
to save my fellow man from strife
And so I ask, at fate's suggestion
For an answer to my question
What did I do, in all this time, what did I do?
In order to have deserved you.

I feel this saying is much maligned and so I wrote my mother this.

It was exactly same question ordinary people would ask themselves. But, isn't one's existence good enough to deserve someone? This, I say, is something most mothers, if not all, agree. But then again, I, too, ponder on same thing. Keep writing.

Such beautiful words! You've created magic here on this page, and I think that the essence of what you have written is a metaphor for life in general. Still, it's all relative...the things that we do to deserve the things that we have. Living a "good life" is subjective, but I believe that by writing in the way that you do, you have touched some souls, and that's worth a lot. Keep it up...I look forward to reading more from you!

You wrote a amazing poem for your mother. You are very wise. Most of us learn too late to appreciate the important people in a life. A outstanding poem.
