The lost soldiers

The lost soldiers

A Poem by Unwelcomeguest
"

A poem to all the soldiers who have ever died for their cause no matter what side they found themselves on.

"

Name on Name

Row on Row

The single message for all to know

Never again

A single soldier

Buried deep

Under a stone they shall sleep

Their name lives on

The memoirs of

A broken soul

Many men in one deep hole

Known unto God

Sadness of a

Shallow grave

Only your memories can save

So we shall not forget

Poppies live

Our memories lift

The single flower, their parting gift

We will never forget

A generation

Carved in stone

The soldiers that were never known

For they saved us

Never again

Their name lives on

Known unto God

So we shall not forget

We will never forget

For they saved us

These words of remembrance

All us lucky ones should know.

I wrote this poem after a trip to the war graves in Belgium and France. It was then read out to the war veterans who used to go to my school. It is also probably the poem that got me into writing. I would appreciate criticism so don't feel guilty as though you're tarnishing someone's memory or my damaging my feelings. I haven't actually lost anyone to any conflict as of yet and do not intend to.

Wow, This is absolutely beautiful. You can really feel the power and impact of your words. Because we will never forget. I adore the whole thing, but especially this line: " A generation
Carved in stone
The soldiers that were never known
For they saved us"
Gorgeous.

How agonizing to imagine so many lives being silenced and then left unknown. You've captured that beautifully here, with a haunting and poignant ode. I love the rhythm and the cadence of this piece. Even though I can usually find at least ONE thing to suggest in any piece of writing, I'm left speechless on this one. Nicely done...very impressive!

I like the poem. Unknown Soldier grave leave me sad for men who will never be known to parent and family what happen to them. I read my poem a loud. Your flow struggle in the poem at the end. So we shall never forget. and We will never forget state the same statement. A very good poem. Thank you.
