A Ride upon the Horse.A Poem by Paige DellawayThis poem was inspired by Maya Angelou's, "Caged Bird," which I read during a creative writing class; I decided to publish it here because I thought writing it was a lot of fun!Our ride upon the horse Began gently As we eased and greeted The beauty before us. We were shy before the horse Watching from afar Pretending he wasn’t there At least for a while. But soon we met the horse Hesitantly, warily And we stroked his back Though we still did not voice his name. We ran with the horse And while we galloped and sang We found him a name And that name was Love. Our ride upon the horse Was smooth Yet not smooth All at once. WInds and gales threw the horse And Love was challenged By forces That he could not control. But there was another horse That we found And she helped ours When we we could not. She ran with the horse Taming his distress Calming his fear And Love responded well. We asked the mare If she had a name And she whispered in our ears: “I am Trust.” So now we ride with our horses In a chariot Of the purest gold; Pulled by Love And guided by Trust. © 2016 Paige DellawayAuthor's Note
