The Generation With Hellfire

The Generation With Hellfire

A Poem by Kaia

Tell me what you see;

Do you see the generation that was born into a world that was falling apart at the seams?

Or do you see a generation that doesn’t live up to what it’s supposed to be?

I can tell you exactly what I see -

I see a generation that was built on the ashes of a once-great society,

Born into a world where you can’t trust anyone; god forbid you trust yourself

It’s a generation that was too young to see the governments break

And has to watch the chaos and the wars and the hungry and the homeless

Not being able to do a thing until years and years down the road

But, here’s the thing…

Where you see a generation that failed you in every single way,

I see a generation being forged from hellfire

A generation that has anger coursing through our veins at all of the inequalities

And you should believe me when I say that there is absolutely no way we’ll stand for your corruption

We’ve spent years being told that being different was a bad thing

And that you should never want to be unique - unique makes you different

Do you see how far that got us?

We took what you said to heart

To the hearts you forced us to turn to ice

And we carved it into something we could be proud of -

We’re proud of the homosexuals

We’re proud of the transgenders

We’re proud of the music we listen to,

And the people who dye their hair crazy colors

Did you think that you could oppress us like the 1900’s all over again?

Did you really think that we would stand for being perfect little machines off the factory line?

That gleam that you see in our eyes;

That glint of the crazy and the insane -

Make no mistake, that’s what makes us dangerous

We are not afraid of your stupid taunts

We are not afraid of the idiotic social standards

We are not afraid of the government

What we are afraid of, is you crushing the last brick holding up an entire society

We intend to recreate your kingdom

With a government that does not care about who you like, what you look like, or what country you come from

We’ll take in the rebellious,

We’ll embrace the crazy

We’ll punish the rightly accused

We’ll apologize to the victims of your tyranny

At the beginning, you saw us as nothing more as the generation that would take on your legacy

You did not see our potential; what we could become

And as the years pass by, you finally see us as who we are

We are a generation to be reckoned with

Rewriting the history books and the social standards

The generation that will encourage the unique and run our laws without bias

We are the generation with hellfire in our eyes
