The Fool and the StaircaseA Poem by Lucy Johnson![]() Poem![]()
In the circular staircase, a fool did roam,
Inquest of the mind, seeking to atone. The air was heavy with mental strife, As the revolver of emotions threatened life. Fire ignites bright for money's gain, A prey to greed, a dance in vain. Earthly desires, physical needs, Dreams in slumber's light, where the soul leads In the bed of law, profits lay, A future uncertain, a price to pay. Water flowed, a spiritual affair, A mysterious pair, beyond compare. Motionless pillows, where thoughts fell back, Captured by longing, in dreams they lack. In the breeze of belonging, it curls through my hair To find calmness in the midst of this mysterious affair.
