Don't Force it Kid

Don't Force it Kid

A Poem by Tigran Avoundjian

Don't force it kid,
It'll come to you in time
And then the world will explode
Like you stepped on a land mine

But you won't lose a leg
Hell, you won't even lose a toe
Because the shrapnel may fly
And the explosion may blind
But your heart will be illuminated
And you'll finally know why
Dig it?

Don't force it kid,
It'll come to you in time
Don't chop off your hair
And threaten homosexuality
Because only this one girl seems to care.
The male sex will lose a great prize
If you turn away your eyes
And look to your own kind for comfort.
Dig it?

Don't force it kid,
Roses are overrated.
So forget about romance,
And magical fairy tale happy endings
And your prince charming may never come
But the sun'll still shine on your back
And one day a dapper young lad
May surprise you with a big yellow flower
And a goofy grin
And you'll still be swept off your feet
Dig it?

Don't force it kid,
That little black book seems intimidating
But it's full of blank pages
Waiting for your genius
Talent doesn't leak out its pages
It runs through your blood
And that's why it's sitting on your desk
Or inside your bedside end table
Or lying somewhere on the floor
Or lost in your purse
Amid tampons, gum, Kleenex,
Lipstick, smoke and mirrors
And it's not beating in your chest
Or burning in your soul
Dig it?

Don't force it kid
It'll come to you in time
And when the world explodes
Like you stepped on a land mine
You'll finally have the answers
To the questions that ask why?
Dig it?
