Nails Scratch the Floorboards

Nails Scratch the Floorboards

A Poem by UnendingOceans

I never want to ask

another soul just what they feel

when they turn off all the lights

and have only themselves to blame.

Let’s do that thing we do

when you ask me what’s the matter "

then again you never do,

even when you say goodbye.

I am nothing to me,

an incandescent light bulb

broken underfoot,

as if bleeding hearts make sense.

I see you stand like everybody,

laugh like everybody,

and be like all the people "

just let me die here by myself.

I never want to ask another person

how they feel down in the dark

when someone flips on all the lights

and sees them naked on the ground.

I am so moved by your style and your words. To me, this speaks so much of pain and loss, self-doubt and feeling unimportant. When you have felt this pain, you know, and you would not want to ask someone how it feels because it is too horrible to remind them. You are so talented.
