Jan. 6, Kiley

A Chapter by Jordynn Zier

The last day of holiday break.

I want to spend it with my love,

maybe ice skating on the frozen

lake ice.

Maybe exchanging silent "I love

You"s in his truck bed.

Maybe just spending time with

eachother, watching a movie

at his house on his large, brown

sofa.

But, I can't. Apparently, a huge

blizzard swept through oer night,

and I happened to miss it. I'm

not inferring that my boyfriend

is a liar, but let's just say I know

when he just wants and excuse

to spend some time apart,

and I can totally understand that.

Where I draw the line is when

I find out he's been seeing

other girls. Not any he wants

a relationship with, I'm sure,

but I know how he looks at

Jenna.

Her perfect marble skin,

Her silky, long black hair,

Her forest green eyes,

flecked with gold and silver.

My barely tanned skin,

My choppy, layered blonde hair,

My sky blue eyes,

flecked with gold and possibly

rejection.

I walk outside into the chill

of late winter, and to my

small car. Starting it has

never been a problem for me,

until now. Maybe it's the cold,

maybe it's the car. Maybe it's me.

Either way, I run in to get Jessie.

He's, of course, sitting in his room,

texting and eating while watching

reruns of the walking dead.

"Jess. I need you."

"What for?" He asks, not looking up from his laptop.

"My car won't start."

"It's just the cold. Wait till it gets warmer."

"I can't. Unlike you, I have a job." I throw at him. He stares at me like I just shot him.

"Wow, someone's catty today. I'll just give you a

ride if you quit your bitching." He spits through

                         his teeth.

Now we head out to his truck,

where I sit in the passenger

seat and watch him skillfully

and easily drive me to my

job, where I'll spend the

remainder of my day,

thinking of what girl he

wants more than me tonight.
