Winters ReignA Poem by UndeadjemI wrote this in my Creative Writing class of our Terza Rima assignment. It was very difficult -to me at least. Each line has only 10 syllables and its in the standard ABA BCB CDC pattern.I Her hair is fair and sits upon her neck, and is dear and cloudless in sun or shade. my limbs tremble when she gives me a peck. she whispers to me, “With you, I will stay.” her voice is cold and cool like gentle rain. today, in winters reign, our love is made. my heart was recovered where it had lain. her smile glistens like crystal snow-flakes. there is nothing more that I could gain. her eyes are silverblue like winter lakes; beauty like flawless gems of crystal hewn, but free and gentle and full of elate. shining bright like the sun and snow and moon I caress her face and say, “I love you.” a laugh escapes. she caresses my wound. she answers in croon, “I love you, too.” tears swell on her eyes, now a pool of life. the death from my wound started to ensue. II “How did it come to this? Please tell me, my wife.” on my back, I won’t reach beyond the night. her voice, now woe and sweet, was full of strife. “They swarmed us like water on rocks with might steel clashed and clanged, now bodies rot in place you are safe now, but your body's death-white.” “Your breath is short, and life deserts your face, like leaves from trees when winter reigns these lands. your love I will always keep and embrace.” “I will avenge you and leave them a damned. my love, please forgive me, for I’m in grief. now, I must leave my heart in your dead hands.” “I will ride the wind as light as a leaf, seeking revenge until my sins at peace.” © 2015 UndeadjemReviews
