If Marilyn Monroe Were Alive Today, What Would She Be Doing?

If Marilyn Monroe Were Alive Today, What Would She Be Doing?

A Poem by Barry Shelton

Verse 1:

Staring at the sun as it breaks through the sky

A shining reminder of our darkest day

Oh why cant I just forget you?

The story's done but I cant seem to turn the final page

A shakespearian tragedy for the modern age

Chorus:

Save the theatrics for an actor

All your dramatics, they have left me tired

Oh I hear the sound of your heartbeat so slow

The orchestra's optimism was misleading as I let you go

Verse 2:

Holding my breath

Taking that last step off the stage

Cant look back now because your eyes they were my cage

Push through the door and I'm met by the autumn breeze

The wind so powerful it should have brought me to my knees

Look to the clouds and I swear I could see your name

I look to escape your twisted game

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:

Break me down in the saddest of ways

Break me down in anyway that you crave

You controlled me in every move that I made

but it seems that I foiled all the plans that you laid

It all just fell apart at the seams

You wanted love

but you knew not

knew not what it means.
