Burning Like a BridgeA Poem by Barry Shelton
I'm locking the door
and throwing away the key Never will I be taken for granted again You are the prime example of why I never trust You took away and never once gave back This door will be left to rust do you even sense the humanity you lack? Banging my head against the wall Taking deep breaths, preparing for the fall Just tell me where did I go wrong? I know you know You've seen it all along We are never who we set out to be With intentions of gold. but a soul that's long been sold This is what you get when you even lie to yourself So go ahead, place me back on the shelf You're a frigid rain in summer A stampede through the smallest of towns My heart hits the ground I thought you were the one to save me To Keep me away from this A sinking feeling that I never missed You said all these things right to my face Your voice dripping with false sincerity You turned your back and so I'm left here with mine against the wall © 2013 Barry SheltonAuthor's Note
