Clawing at the Lid of Her Coffin

Clawing at the Lid of Her Coffin

A Poem by Barry Shelton

Intro:

This operation it required a steady hand

One thing I'm afraid that I will never have

Saving this, it's impossible to grasp

And that's when the line went flat

Verse 1:

I buried my heart in the desert

Never again to be found

No, I wont let myself revert

back to an old familiar sound

of glass hearts breaking

Though my intentions were gold

She was souless

for long ago her's was sold

Chorus:

Cold eyes, they try to pull me in

It just isn't fair, she haunts me from within

You wont catch me dear

I buried you far too deep

And I feel nothing now

I wont live in fear

Verse 2:

You had your hands around my throat

I was gasping for air

You had your hands around my throat

when no one else was there

You had me right where you wanted me

But not even close to where I was meant to be

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:

As the wind blows nobody knows

what memories it brings of you and me

But I won't fall victim again

No matter how discreet

I tear these reminders from the walls

Just to forget your face

Your presence no longer lingers here

No, not even a trace.
