I read a lot of Paulo Coelho... I don't know if you know who he is. He puts himself into the role of "the other" quite often in his work. That's what I read here... "the other." I chose this poem to read because I grew up raped... by, as it turned out, the victim of a priest... my brother. It was hard to read, but I see your statements repeated by society far too often. The mind of "the other" isn't pretty, but it's essential for self evaluation. It's a worthy work to me. I want to slap you around for the thoughts expressed, but I think that may be the point to this work. It's meant to awaken. Cheers.

First I like to say... I'm terribly sorry for everything that happened to you. I don't know how else to put it other than I know some of that pain.

I was only meant to be the mirror. Never the image seeking vanity.
I wanted to show how twisted we are when we treat a crime that kills not the body but the soul and mind. I was simply repeating what had been said by the republican's right to lifers in congress and applying their logic to society as well as mixing how society functions.
I'm glad you see what I was trying to do.

Pornography passed off as art. Even if there were legitimate elements of style and structure the content is vile enough to take you out of the game. I agree with some criticisms about my poem, however and thank you for that.
As for you, get a job in a butcher house and see your dream fulfilled.

Vile yes. Gruesome indeed. And over sexualized? That's what I was aiming for. It was meant as simply the reflection unpolished of how Americans (like myself) view subjects of rape, abortion, and sex. I don't think my poem is vile compared to what the subject of the portrait was. Considering the message the vile approach was

As for structure and the free verse style I prefer to use. I find that the more you try and make a poem look like a poem the less of an impact the words you are saying have. Because people are distracted by how pretty a poem is they quickly forget its message and subject.
As for the statement about pornography it is a fucked up subject because its a fucked up reality. I tried to show the (pardon my french) fucked up reality of this subject and show the dark painful reality that our society harbors.

I got all that about the style being for shock effect and all. I believe that the segment of the society that truly shares your perceptions, is small. I
think you don't believe we live in a fairytale world, but that was over the top and if that is what you were going for, good job. As much as a symplified rhyming verse, which I agree with, can distract from the message, so can vulgarity taken to such an extreme measure destroy the contrast you were looking to create. By the way, the reason i tend to fall into rhythmic modes is because poetry has a lot of connection to music and lyrics for me. I agree that the my piece you commented on was weak, I reworked it to a place i feel better about. By the way feedback does not need to be meanspirited, i.e. the remark of a kicked dog, in order to make a point. I was only hash to describe the fact the poem felt forced and like your thought you had moved past the event but your writing said otherwise. I didn't mean to offend but when I was reading it just felt so contradictory or message even in the imagery. It was good but also the last line ruined it for me as one can not fight for love however we can stride for it. I didn't aim to be mean just honest. (Sadly I can be TOO honest)

As for he vulgarity it was meant to offend those who if they read it and were the point of the problem would be offended. Each section was to insult the comments made congressmen Todd Akin and his friends who made similar statements. Just a reflection is all.

Fight

I'll be walking on tonight,
Guided by a pale moon's light,
Bruised, I've faltered in my stealth,
Anxious to conceal myself.

This battle won, I know another comes
When I begin to hear the drums.
I take my rest. I know not when
This fearsome foe will rise again.

I gather my wiles and strategize
The details of his just demise.
The fire within burns so fierce and bright,
It will banish him forth into hell's frigid night.

The sting of truth is bitter and cruel,
Ties a weighted stone to the heart of this fool.

I'm sorry that I was so hash. I honestly feel terrible how harsh I was, when it was unneeded.This poem is very well written the few faults I can find are so small they aren't even worth mentioning. The style and structure is well defined and effective in its use and the classical message is well defined by the imagery of the mind at the with drawl of love. I give it a 90-100 score.

sure...tell me some of your writing/ training/ background, and what started you writing in the beginning.

Started writing children stories. (Yes go ahead and laugh because that is funny) moved from that to zombie horror and poetry.
Training, basic public school English.
Mom's a teacher, dad's a cattle rancher. Spent many years being surrounded by people but isolated till the point my thoughts only bounced off my own head. I studied other people knowing if I learned the secret I would be able to have someone to listen to. I studied human nature from watching while others learned it quickly. Human nature to me was illogical even to the point of complete madness! So strange were these days.

I started writing children stories but only started seriously writing with horror and poetry.

Wow. I really enjoyed reading this poem. It gave me a lot of perspective, and it was especially touching with the religious aspect thrown in it as well. I also very much liked how the narrator was so confident and proud to speak, it really gave the entire piece a higher, more powerful atmosphere then a lot of other poems I've read. Well there are three stanzas in the poem meant to represent Todd Akin and friends and the confidence comes from our society itself how easily it can treat rape as if it was so simple just a story or fairy tale.
