Backyard ScienceA Poem by Ryan
Give me a reason to be upset.
Give me a struggle. This daily, you and me, me and myself, grind is too familiar, too difficult. Let me know you care, send me small messages like winks, vibrations on yarn, amplified through styrofoam cups. Anything to know that I still matter, still fit somewhere into this microcosm. How long will I reflexively smile when I hear your hushed giggle two rows behind me? From now on, I'll position myself in places where sound waves die, where smiles can't be seen or felt, and those archaic emotions can't radiate to or from me. I'll wean myself off your light. I'll find myself another star, whose light will help me fix gaseous carbon into organic rings. I'll green and thrive, and feed the gardener who tends me. © 2013 Ryan |
