A Creature of Three Heads

A Creature of Three Heads

A Poem by Ujjal Mandal

That night the moon was not distinct.
I had to stop my cart in the forest,
not enough light to run.
It was then midnight.
I felt sleepy and at sudden a
bleary figure passed by me;
I made a quick run to and fro but fell"
and I heard someone came flying on
the skeletal branches"
a dark bird of three heads eating
a piece of flesh
and some Latin words carved on its wings:
'homo fuge, hac nocte tuum est'.
Oh, it was scary with the naked eyes to look at!
