Dance
A Poem by

An odd little piece...
I take your hands into mine With a rush of blind bliss Staring past your deep eyes Your smile paining me "What am I to you?" You shake your head "You needn't ask. You already know that." I grab hold of your throat Indenting my fingers "Tell me what I am. What am I to you?" Your eyes are shook with fear And my heart with fury I rip away from you Searching for an answer Why can't I breathe? I have lost all sight And I cry out for someone Scratching out my eyes You hold out a hand As I am about to scream Taking me in your grasp Your eyes filled with sorrow The music fades from my ears And I reach for your hair To remember warmth But you flinch away I fall to the floor As I feel your breath dissolve And leave my presence My eyes dried from the air I reach to my own throat With trembling fingertips "What am I to you? " I scream to the empty room My hands hit the cold floor Tears refusing to form As my breath begins shortening And I release My vision returns Painful consciousness arises Regrets lingering, muted I can hear your voice softly A song to my aching ears As your hands wrap around me Sorrow in your eyes And tears beginning to drip "You know what you are." I grasped the hem of your shirt Cringing at the empty words And looking into your eyes "Remind me. " I begged, grief rising in my chest "Why can't I feel full? " My fist hitting the pillow Your eyes close slowly And you held out your hand A smile forming on your lips "Dance with me." I take the steps towards you And begin our dance With sorrow and nearby hope Whispering somewhere Whispering in our hearts As we danced for each other The reasons bubbling Waiting for us to find them I could soon hear my own heartbeat As I never had before I could taste your sweet aroma And the grief you had been caused We began to weave our dance With the memories of hardship Creating our world together Where our sins were washed away Our tears would serve as cures For each others pain And we would dance forevermore Our sorrow singing along

An interesting poem, an interesting story. Perhaps I am the only one who sees this in your poem, but it appears to me a tale of Avarice defeated by Charity. Nicely allegorical in my opinion.
A dance together to alleviate suffering, a dance together to rediscover joy. Perhaps I misunderstand...perhaps not. Still...
Alluring...

Truly an amazing piece.
With the title and 1st stanza, I was expecting some fun, lovey- romantic type thing.. but then the 3rd stanza comes along and throws me for a loop. An unexpected storyline, a nice surprise, and very well written. also, much emotion exuding from this piece...you really understand the power of words and the power of storytelling. nice job

I'm stunned. :3 This was a really lovely piece of poetry. I can't exactly put into words my thoughts on it! But it truly was beautiful. There was a lingering image in my head if what was going on. It's so painful, but yet it seemed hopeful. Gah! I loved it! You did a marvelous job with it. Much applause to you!

Our tears would serve as cures
For each others pain
And we would dance forevermore
Our sorrow singing along
