BruiseA Poem by AnonymousBack, way back, into our sepia memories
With the soundless videotapes of our adventures I wore the pilot goggles and grass-stained overalls You held our silver lead-painted magic wands “Hurry to the army base!” we squealed Did you forget those days when we fought dragons? Slayed the beasts and conquered kingdoms? Met Elves and fairies and served great kings? Well, when you stopped meeting me under the tree I guess the magic finally left your heart When we met again, it was at the street corner A scarf wrapped around my dress collar It was the middle of winter, you remember A smoking stick hanging off of your lip Your eyes had gotten watery and dark after that You always seemed tired and dizzy “I never get any sleep” was your constant lie You'd invite me over and lock me in My blood and bruises acted as your painkillers The belt tattooed red against my hip My eyes darkened with grief for your own pain The magic stayed within my heart, even when you struck I allowed it, because I knew your gray pain Boiling black within your magic-less heart I'll wait for you, now, back at the army base My pilot goggles and grass-stained overalls The world will fit back into perfection When you bring our silver lead-painted magic wands © 2011 AnonymousReviews
