Chapter 5: Realms' Past Part OneA Chapter by Anonymous
“Whoa! Bend, where’d ye get that guy? He looks like he’s about’ta pass
out! He’s gettin’ blood all over!” Mark shouted as Ewa scrambled to set
Realms on a bed.
“Why are ye askin’ stupid questions when ye should be helpin’ this poor kid?” Ewa grumbled. Mark, Lanny, Cheat, Runner, and Bull exchanged quick glances, shrugged, and came over to help Realms. Lanny grabbed bandages and alcohol while Runner fetched water and bread from the kitchen. “C’mon, Realms. Quit whinin’ and be a man! We’ll care o’ ye!” Ewa said, patting Realms shoulder as he lay, cringing in pain. Bull was scrambling to grab more medicinal herbs, when he stopped and looked at Realms. “So, what’s this guy’s story?” he asked; Ewa didn’t take her eyes off of Realms. “He’s a sorcerer,” Ewa said. “Well, heh, was a sorcerer. I couldn’t let the poor sap die at the castle; I’m not all bad, eh?” “He can stay here with the rest of us losers, then!” Bull laughed, grinning. Ewa heard a quiet voice rasping from Realms. “Ewa,” he rasped. “Thanks for... For saving me. I’d though you would have left me for dead, seeing how pitiful I was back there.” “Eh, we outcasts like to stick together! Ye shouldn’t have doubted me!” Realms let out a tiny subtle laugh and drifted back into unconsciousness. Ewa stood up and sighed, wiping her eyes and trying not to show that she was a little concerned about Realms. She heard Cheat and Mark mumbling about her from across the room, then whipped around, her eyes blazing like dark blue flames. “Whaddya talkin’ about?” she demanded. They looked embarrassed, stuttered an apology, and ran back to tending to Realms. Ewa stepped outside and breathed in the cool night air, slouching down on the wall until she was on the ground, her chin resting on her knees and her arms wrapped around her legs. What have I gotten myself into? Ewa thought. She sat and inhaled deeply, the cold breeze caressing her face. The heat of her stress began to freeze away, until her silence was interrupted. “Ewa,” said a cool voice. Ewa lifted her head and saw a woman whose skin glowed like light golden honey and dark blue locks curled and tumbled down her shoulders. She wore a revealing scooped gown that shone a rich green, matching her forest-green eyes. Her whole presence glowed like a bright torch in a dark alley. “Whaddya doin’ on hood turf, lady?” Ewa said bitterly, hiding her awe of the glittering woman, who laughed like an angel. “Don’t want to know all about Realms past, Ewa?” she breathed. “Eh? You know Realms, do ye?” Ewa hissed. “Well, he’s bleedin’ to death inside there! Yeah, don’t try to conceal that yer just a messenger from that castle! Ye filthy animals will never get him back!” “I’m not from the castle,” the woman said, her eyes glistening and her long, lush eyelashes batting twice. “I am Realms mother, Flame.” Ewa’s heart nearly stopped for a moment as fixed her eyes on Flame. “So, yer the one who left him to serve the dirt we call the king?” Ewa said darkly. “It wasn’t my choice to die and leave my son. I was killed by the very same people that my son now serves,” Flame said very seriously. “Then... Yer also the one that the Sixth Spirit fell in love with?” Ewa said, quietly this time. Flame’s green gaze softened. “Yes, I am the bride of Rainfall, the Sixth Spirit. I know quite a bit about you, Ewa. More than you may even know.” “That’s what Realms said,” Ewa said, standing and putting her hands on her hips. “Ye do look a lot like him. So, why is his past such a big deal to everyone, eh?” “Let me tell you, Ewa.” Flame grasped Ewa’s hand gently, her golden skin smooth as silk against Ewa’s. The hideout was gone; the entire city was no longer visible. She and Flame were in pitch black nothingness, nothing to see or feel around them. Ewa felt like she was a small little girl, helpless as she held Flame’s hand tightly. “Where are we?” Ewa whispered. Flame did not respond, only pointed in front of her. Ewa turned and looked, gasping as she saw a woman standing about twenty feet away in the darkness. Tears began to stream down Ewa’s face. The woman had Ewa’s hair, Elf ears, and pale blue eyes. Her gentle smile made Ewa almost start weeping. “Hello, my little Ewaan,” the woman said. “Mother!” © 2011 AnonymousReviews
