whO iAM

whO iAM

A Poem by eli mercuree rue

You ask me who I am

Through a masked face

Hiding scars

That mark your past

Your hidden identity

Your insanity

Your pride

Your dignity

Your shame

You ask me who I am

While your identity is concealed

And still I tell you

I am the air you breathe

In that is mixed with carbon monoxide

I come to you in the nights

You don’t want to live

Help you leave

I am the ignition of your car

The keys in your pocket

The gun in your hand

I arm you with everything you need

To retreat, get away, escape

Leave this earth

Just so you can come back

A reincarnated baby

Forced to do it all over again

To relive those

Days you dread

Who am I?

I am the hand

Tightly securing the noose

Around your neck

As you make your way down

I allow your eyes to pop

Your mouth to drop

I am those brief memories

Before your current life ends

I am your worst sin

I am the beginning middle and end

Of your life because

I am encompassed in everything you do

Every breath you take

Every step of your feet

Breaking grass seeds and pavement too

I am you on your holiest of autumns end

I am the blasphemy that rolls off your tongue

I am your unborn sons and daughters

Already pushing you off of the alter

Stealing your money

Killing the bees that make your honey

I am the evil live in you

Constantly forcing you to

Shake the bleeding flesh of your hands

With the thorned hands of Satan

I am that

Which causes you to see the ugly side of nature

Just because

I want your insides to ignite when

Her true beauty

Dances in front of your face

Masked by simplicity

This is who I am.
