Not Even a Promise

Not Even a Promise

A Poem by UC Poika
"

Children demand and even promise but what if they don't keep their promises.

"

Don’t forget and bring my bottle late this time,

Or change me after my rash burns and feels raw.

Don’t forget my bath, or hold me and hug at the chime

Or they’ll hit my body and plague my mind with a flaw.

Don’t forget where I play in the yard, the deck or the car.

Don’t fail to think of me when I nap in schools.

Wherever I am don’t let the distance be far,

But don’t lie to me when I run even if to fools

When I leave don’t forget I will remember you

And tell you all about the life I chose for my own.

I promise I’ll share every detail with you too,

That way neither of us will be left alone.

I made all those promises but I kept none.

But how is it after death?  Just look what I’ve done…!
