How to write a poem

How to write a poem

A Poem by Ryan Falzon - Tymon
"

A poem written in the form of a guide on how to write a poem.

"

How to write a poem:

Step 1: Understand that the pen, pencil or whatever you use to turn thoughts to stone is one of the world's greatest inventions that will stand the test of time. Always have one in handy.

Step 2: Open your eyes to the world and embrace its knowledge.

Learn to enjoy the little things, and learn to see the messages the world is constantly trying to give to us.

Step 3: Accept the fact, no, EMBRACE the fact that no one will read whatever you write. Be it true or not. No one shall read the words you write. Therefore, do not write what people want to read, write what your soul wants to say.

Step 4: Be aware of the poet's worst enemy. Destroy it in every shape, in every form and in every way. Yet also be aware that this enemy is immortal, and will also stand the test of time. Do not fear the blank page, fight it.

Step 5:  Look at the final piece of you work. It is useless, worthless and utter trash to anyone else but you. A great poem may affect a great many people, a good poem may affect a small amount of people, but any poem will affect the hand that wrote it, and that is what matters.

Step 6: Spread your wings afar, read your creation and polish it the same way a statue is polished to appear light and gleaming, and not dull and hidden.

Extra note: One can write anything in reality. A piece of art can have the most beautiful words weaved together in the grace of a spider’s web. Yet if it is not true to the author's heart, then that is not a poem, it is a rhyme.

Steps 2 and 3 are my favorites. =) I love this. It's true, it's to the point, and it has a certain humor to it that only a poet could understand. Nice work
