A Second ChanceA Poem by NewWriterOldWorldChanged from the inside in a singular moment Clarity turns into consciousness, consciousness transforms into love When I heard your little cry, that healthy beautiful cry, I wept with you I called out your name, and your crying ceased, like you knew who I was. I stared down at you, your features my features, your future my whole being. Thank you God, Thank you for her The repetition of gratitude played out in my head As they bundled you up in that pink spotted blanket and handed you to me, my heart was pounding. For all the wrongs I had done, for all the pain I had caused, you gave me a second chance. If I could parent you right and give you all that I have, I would die happy. You gave me a second chance and I will never forget, my dear daughter. Thank you, my sweet Olive.
