Russian Roulette

Tyler Allen

A six-shooter pistol

Five empty slots

The sixth holds the key

To ending these thoughts

The barrel is steady

Between my lips

More or less my intention

My finger slips

Click…

The wheel of fate shifts

Its sovereign position

My life is extended

By lucks intuition

Now who am I?

The lonely drifter

Had love in my grasp

But I never kissed her

So that’s one empty click

For the girl’s left behind

The only one  that mattered

Will remain on my mind

I pass on the pistol

To the next contender

We’re all in the attic

‘Round an old chest in the center

                              …Of my mind

A six-shooter pistol

Five empty slots

The sixth holds the key

To ending these thoughts

The barrel is shaking

My arms quake and quiver

Then with cold hesitation

Let the hammer deliver

Click…

The wheel of fate turns

Yet another hollow mercy

My life is extended

By luck’s lust to hurt me

Now who am I?

Another one of the freaks

The one who repels

Every time that he speaks

So that’s one empty click

For the sick fantasies

The bullet I missed

Would have kept them at ease

I pass on the pistol

To the next contender

We’re all in the attic

‘Round an old chest in the center

                              …Of my mind

A six-shooter pistol

Five empty slots

The sixth holds the key

To ending these thoughts

The barrel is still

Beneath my chin

As my finger commands

The hammer strikes the pin

Click…

The wheel of fate spins

I steal another breath

My life is extended

By luck’s fear of death

Now who am I?

A shadow at best

The one who keeps praying

That life’s but a test

So that’s one empty click

For the hole in my mind

That I fell in when all

My friends left me behind

I pass on the pistol

To the next contender

We’re all in the attic

‘Round an old chest in the center

                              …Of my mind

A six-shooter pistol

Five empty slots

The sixth holds the key

To ending these thoughts

The barrel is trembling

My eyes growing bigger

With last regrets brimming

I pull on the trigger

BANG!!

I like the way you have written this. The easy flowing rhymes and language bring the images of what's going on vividly to mind and there's a sense of unease with what's happening behind the words.

seriously wild piece....felt the wince with every click. Great pulsing of thoughts in between...and then...BANG! Brilliantly conceived and powerfully delivered!
Cheers!

woa....
very intense. especially the last line...like, "WOA!"
i of course expected the person to die...the narrator...but was still very wonderful of a poem.

This reminds me of the movie; “The Deer Hunter”
If you ever seen it you’ll know what I’m talking
about. Powerfully written…

It took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on, but once I did I really liked it. The concept is pretty awesome and your spin on it was unique. Well done.
