A Sorrowful Truth (An Ode)A Poem by Tyler SampsonAn ode to sorrowNobody loves you, nobody wants you. Everyone avoids you like the plague. What on Earth could anyone see in you. When all you do is take. Our happiness, you steal from us, And with your filthy feet you stomp. Crushing our hopes and our dreams, And steal from us our wants. Age, gender, race, you don’t care, You gleefully do what you will. At the tender age of ten I lost my dad, You took, leaving me a hole to fill. Revenge, suicide, all exist thanks to you. Hatred brought on by a sorrowful truth. But I would never want to be rid of you, For it is you who brings light to our lives. If not for you throwing us down a dark well, We would never turn our eyes to the sky. Everyone loves you, but no one admits, Everyone wants to live happy days. But, without you looming over our heads, Our lives would merely be shades of gray. To Sorrow, who gives our lives meaning, You can’t take from me what you will. If not for you, I could never understand, Unto me, the love my father instilled. Art, music, love, all exist thanks to you. Happiness brought on from a sorrowful truth. © 2015 Tyler Sampson |
