The forging of a smileA Poem by Tyler RhinhartSome authoritive figures may try to hurt you, belittle you, or mentally put you down. Do not worry, you are safe. The pain and suffering inflicted upon you from others, exists only if you let it!
To those appointed over me, I wave, wink, and smile.
I wear a mask to hide the real me, obey petty orders, but only for a little while. A shield nine inches thick, Impenetrable by oppression, Barricades my mind, body and soul, Safeguarding the real me from obsession. The front I pose, disguised in uniformed clothes, Leaves me engulfed in the shadows. Free from oppressors, Silenced from those barking orders; Who I really am, nobody knows. An illuminating surge of pure bliss, runs from my head unto my toes. A sense of ultimate freedom enlightens the air I kiss, through my nose. Though my mind is forgiving, The memories still hurt. Marks and scars lay imprinted on my mind, from where the chains used to grip so tight, Strapping me to the dirt. To those appointed over me I forge thank yous, winks, and smiles. I respectfully nod, and falsely agree to the words I hear. Though only in arms reach, I go untouched in here. A word simply heard, Is not a word that is fully listened, or even understood. Beneath my shield and engulfed in shadows, I lie free from the wrath of another man's wants, needs, and desires. Staying hidden on auto pilot, While posing for the camera, I focus my lense on what truly matters. © 2014 Tyler RhinhartAuthor's Note
