80's KidsA Poem by James Mckay
My brother and I were children of the eighties
We were daddy's pains and mama's little babies We grew up by faith and from an old leather belt We knew God loved us and dad's love was felt We still had our adventures and we made it last Our converse pedaled those Mongoose's fast We grew up drinkin water from a water hose And we wore a lot of hand me down clothes Every once in a while we'd get something nice We respected our elders and didn't think twice We lost our mamaw early and it hit us heavy And our dad would only buy and drive a Chevy We were always told to be on our best behavior And a stick from a tree was a gun or a light saber We'd had a Glo-worm, My Buddy, or Teddy Ruxpin We love to slip n slide, Big Wheel, and Sit and Spin We had an Etch A Sketch and that good ol Lite Brite I had my Star Wars blanket and my TMNT night light Saturday morning cartoons of Transformers and GI Joe And getting Mario to level eight on my original Nintendo Drinking kool aid and Tang, getting our sugar count higher And pulling each other around laughing in our Radio Flyer Sometimes we were daring and even up to no good Jumping our bikes we put together of bricks and wood There was tv dinners and them Hollywood video movies We watched E.T. and Gremlins, Disney or the Goonies Shootin our BB guns at each other or at aluminum cans Our imagination was used so much for I loved being He-Man Where classic country played as did the Dukes of Hazzard And when mom opened the door, it look like a total disaster Then we got in our teens and the nineties came along That my friends is another decade and a totally different song! by: James W.
