Self-Reflecting

Self-Reflecting

A Poem by James Mckay

I could sit on a creek bank
Just watching the water flow
Hearing the crickets chirp
And see the fish swim below
The sun pierces through the trees
It gives the area just enough light
My mind drifts in and out
I wonder if I'm feeling all right
A single tears rolls down my cheek
As the memories come into play
Then I let out the water works
But no one asks me if I am okay
The heart is a vessel of love
And when it hurts, it often breaks
Sometimes it needs reassurance
To calmly fill its depressing ache
A frog jumps on a lily pad
And a snake slithers on by
A dragonfly lands on a sunflower
But aren't alert to my cry
Nature has its own dire issues
It needs not to concern itself with me
For everything struggles in the circle
As we live life so vicariously
I wipe my face and instantly smile
I feel as if it has already complied
I reflect on life and on myself
It starts by changing inside
Sometimes nature just grabs you
You have no particular place to go
I could sit on a creek bank
Just watching the water flow.
