ClimbA Poem by James MckayYou curved up from the ground We surveyed you without fail We would look for old boards Find a hammer and some nails We made ourselves a ladder My brother I said to him Make sure the board is wide enough To nail between two limbs It was an old Chinaberry Tree In the corner of our backyard And when one was up there sitting They would declare war We would throw china berries We would be adventurous in our ways Whether we were there or slippin n slidin' Or ridin our bicycles any of those days But we love to climb up that tree I am so glad that we never fail We would look for some more boards Grab daddy's hammer and nails. by: James W.
