Remnants

Remnants

A Poem by James Mckay

Buzzards circle a carcass
of what use to be a dead deer
There are remnants of an automobile
all spread out, here and there

It must've been quite the impact
I hope and pray that no one was hurt
They left a few broken pieces
in the grass, the pavement, and dirt
I looked down at the shattered glass
kicked around some broken plastic parts
I found the bumper and pieces of a grill
I give those who survived, my best regards
There on the road was a blood stain
It appears to be that of the so-called buck
What causes an animal to take such a leap?
What lights the fire underneath it's butt?
I began to re-examine my life once again
I guess I should be thankful to have a lighter load
Otherwise I might be like this deer or that car
Lying here helpless and possibly dead on the road!

Being in the automotive business in the hill country I see numerous cars that have impacted deer on a country drive and in most cases, the car doesn't make out to well at all. The deer I am sure makes out worse. These collisions happen often and are very dangerous and sad. Nicely crafted James
