The Critic

The Critic

A Poem by James Mckay

THERE'S ALWAYS THAT ONE PERSON
WHO IS BETTER THAN YOU
WHO DOESN'T ALWAYS SHARE
YOUR POINT OF VIEW

THERE'S ALWAYS THAT ONE PERSON
WHO HAS A BETTER VOCABULARY
AND YOU CAN SEE HOW THEY USE IT
WHEN YOU READ THEIR POETRY

WELL I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL
I AM FAR FROM BEING A NOVELIST
I GUESS I'M STILL A ROOKIE
NOT EVEN CONSIDERED AN ARTIST

I GUESS I'M BAD WITH MY PUNCTUATION
PERIOD, COLON, SEMI-COLON, COMMA
I DON'T MIND THE OCCASSIONAL CRITIC
BUT PLEASE SPARE ME, THE NECESSARY DRAMA

MAYBE I'LL NEVER WIN THE PULITZER PRIZE
MAYBE I'LL NEVER GET A PUBLISHED BOOK
BUT AS LONG AS MY WORDS TOUCH SOMEONE
THEY'LL BE THERE FOR ANYONE TO LOOK

I KNOW YOUR WORDS ARE HARSH
AND MEANT TO GET UNDER MY SKIN
AS LONG AS WE ALL KEEP WRITING
YOU'LL BE AT IT ONCE AGAIN!

About
Tx! Hello my name is James and I'm 46. I began writing at an early age and I'm sure most of our poetry started with "Roses are Red", etc. I'm not sure where my love or desire for poetry came from .. more..
