God or ChanceA Poem by Kent SmothermanGod or Chance I remember a world of such darkness In a time not so very long ago When I was filled with abject emptiness Longing for release of my withered soul Yet there was something deep within my mind That urged me on each long and lonely day Gently reassuring me, “Despair not For in the morrow joy you will display” And when I thought I could withstand no more There you were, offering end to my woe The miracle I could not imagine Was it God or Chance, I could hardly know But even as the stillness of the night Compels me to wonder of God and Chance I cherish the life we share together As in my mind God whispers me our dance Still it might have been mere chance, you and me Though even chance might be sent from above But I prefer a far more simple reason Neither God nor Chance, but instead our love. © 2012 Kent SmothermanFeatured Review
