MomentsA Poem by Kent SmothermanInspired by an actual event with my children.Moments Our girls wanted to do something different tonight So we ventured into the darkness to view the stars. As we all snuggled up against the night chill The most amazing thing happened. The stars were there, just as always, But there was a silence as such Parents of small children rarely hear. Our girls were just looking up into the sky, Past the park where they like to play, Over the houses of friends and family, Beyond the clatter of television With a silent awe our busy lives Seldom lets us experience in the way of a child. In that moment I felt such love, such simply joy I found tears coming unexpectedly to my eyes. And as even the mighty stars blurred under my tears I saw with such clarity in that moment The things that mean the most to me. They are nothing that I can ever own, Nothing that I could ever achieve. And yet they are always there with us, Even if we don’t take the time to see them, To revel in the simple beauty of their constancy. So I give to you this one shining moment, Chosen from the constellation of our lives, With tears of love more powerful than all the stars. © 2012 Kent SmothermanReviews
